I wanted to talk to you about simple repair tactics that you can do to your acoustic guitar. Let's accept a few things as an inevitability. When you get a new guitar you're going to want to keep it clean and prevent it from getting damaged. I think everyone starts out with that goal, but inevitably you end up with some sort of damage. You're going to get dents and scratches no matter what you do. It's not something that you want, but it is something that you just have to accept as a reality. The thing you might not understand is that it really isn't that hard to fix. There are really cheap/free methods that will help you repair your acoustic guitar.
When you get a dent, you're probably freaking out thinking that you're going to have to get it refinished to make it look right. Maybe you have a friend that told you to get wood filler. You don't have to think about it in such complicated manners. First, the same amount of wood exists in a dent, so obviously you don't need wood filler. The wood is essentially compacted at the point of the dent and expanding it is the key. What you can do is put a drop of water on the dent and it will cause the wood to swell and return to its original position.
When it comes to scratches, fixing this problem is easy. When you scratch the guitar you're not actually scratching wood, just the finish. That means all you have to do is conceal the scratch and the guitar will look like normal. Just use simple clear nail polish. It will fill in the hole of the scratch and give you the appearance of the finish.
